Accredited General Practices must meet a set of Standards that are designed to protect the patient. Accreditation standards for General Practice are set by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).

- Quality Assurance and Education
- Practice Administration
- Physical Factors
Two accreditation bodies exist for General Practice:
The Division offers support for practice accreditation and re-accreditation through:
- practice and mock survey visits,
- help desk,
- practice information sessions,
- audits,
- IM/IT assistance,
- resource provision,
- assistance with the adaption of generic Policy & Procedure Manuals,
- Practice Information Sheets,
- implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement Plans
