International Youth Day on Thursday (12/08/2010) marked the start of the International Year of Youth (2010-2011) The event will be a celebration of young peoples' energy, imagination and initiatives and will recognise their crucial contributions to enhancing peace and development. The event is an opportunity for the international community and the UN system to demonstrate their commitment to young people.
Friday 27th August is Daffodil Day. Everybody knows someone who has been touched by cancer of some kind. Donate or do some fundraising to support cancer sufferers. See the Daffodil Day website for more information
This week (22/08/2010 -28/08/2010) is Speech Pathology Week which seeks to raise awareness about the speech pathology profession and provide information and support for patients with communication and swallowing difficulties.
Also this week: Hearing Awareness Week. One in six Australians have some form of hearing impairment. This national event aims to raise community awareness about hearing loss and protection of hearing, particularly the dangers of over-exposure to loud noises and loud music.
